Cary's subdivision belt runs mile after mile of newer homes on red clay lots, each one with a driveway that looked perfect the day the builder finished it. That clay is the real problem: dense Piedmont soil that swells when wet, contracts when dry, and turns soft through a long wet spell, so a driveway built on a subgrade that was never properly compacted will heave, settle, or crack as the ground moves under it.
We've been serving homeowners and property managers across the Durham area and Cary (27513) since 2009, and we know exactly what happens to asphalt when it sits on unstable clay. That's why we start every job with an honest assessment of what your driveway actually needs, whether that's a patch, a resurfacing, or a full replacement built right on a compacted base. We're fully insured, we measure and estimate on site, and we give you the real story about your pavement so you can make the call.
Asphalt Paving in Cary (27513)
Cary's newer subdivisions sit on lots cut straight out of red clay, and the driveways are often pitched to move water off the surface, but only if the base was compacted properly when the house went in. Many weren't. The result is a driveway that heaves in one spot, settles in another, and cracks where the clay has moved underneath. We also see water running toward garages and foundations when the pitch fails, and potholes that open up fast once the base starts to go soft. Winters here are mild, with only a couple of dozen freeze-thaw cycles a year, so it's not deep cold that tears these driveways apart. It's the clay and the water sitting in it, plus hot humid summers that soften asphalt laid too thin.
Our team has worked on hundreds of driveways and parking lots across Durham and the surrounding area. We understand the soil, the drainage patterns, and what it takes to build a driveway that will actually hold up. We use hot mix asphalt set on a compacted aggregate base, pitched to shed water, and built to the thickness your lot and traffic actually demand. We're here locally, we know the neighborhoods, and we'll give you honest guidance about repair versus replacement.

How a Job Works in Cary
You call us at (984) 257-4541 or request an estimate online. We schedule a free on-site visit to measure your driveway or parking lot, look at the subgrade, check the drainage, and talk through what's actually failing and why. We provide a written estimate with tonnage specs and a clear breakdown of the work, so you know exactly what you're paying for.
Once you approve the estimate, we schedule the work. If your property is in an HOA, we coordinate with the architectural standards. If you need a permit from the Town of Cary, we help you navigate that process. On the day of the work, our crew brings in the equipment needed for your job, prepares the base if necessary, and lays the asphalt. We proof-roll the surface, clean up all the debris, and walk through the finished job with you before we leave.
New asphalt needs time to cure, so we ask you to stay off it for a couple of days and avoid heavy turning or parking in the same spot for the first week or two. We do not recommend sealing the surface for the first six to twelve months while the asphalt finishes curing. After that, regular maintenance keeps your pavement in good shape.
Driveway paving in Cary typically runs from $6 per square foot and up, depending on the size, the access for equipment, and the condition of the base. A resurfacing or overlay is usually less expensive, starting around $4 per square foot, because we're not removing the old pavement. A repair or pothole patch starts at $450 and up. Parking lot work is priced on site, and we offer free commercial estimates. The real cost drivers are the square footage, whether we need to prep or replace the base, and how easy it is to get the paver and roller in and out. We measure on site and provide a written estimate before any work begins. Call us at (984) 257-4541 for a free estimate, or request one online.
